Ankara - Cappadocia

We were awoken by a bell and a call for breakfast, we just had coffee as couldn't face eating olives and cheese so early in the morning. We arrived at Ankara just after eight, where our driver was waiting for us. Off to the museum of natural history. It was amazing to see such ancient things in such a good condition, and such quantities. Jewellery hasn't changed that much over the centuries. Its just so weird trying to get your mind around dates of BC

From there we went to the mausoleum dedicated to Ataturk, where there was an official ceremony, so we got to see the army, navy and airforce men. The ceiling in the mausoleum is so amazing

We then hopped back into the minibus to head for Cappadocia. We stopped at a garage to get some food as we were all starving by this point. Keith and Dori had burgers and Dale had chips. We bought some chocolates, chips and two boxes of smokes and that came to four pounds. The drive from Ankara to Cappadocia was about three hours. There is not much too see along the way besides barren land, some gypsies living in tents and a salt pan, which was huge. We were all tired so got some sleep on the way there.  They drive on the right hand side and luckily aunty Kay was at the back as all the cars seem to overtake at the same time and don't leave many gaps in between them. We were definitely glad we had a driver as we would all have been nervous wrecks driving ourselves in Turkey. All our meals were included in our tour price and most places we had four course meals. For lunch we had pastry filled with cheese for starters and a  Turkish kebab, rice, bringal and salad, followed by  fruit, rice pudding and chocolate instant pudding.

On arriving at Cappadocia we were greeted by the most amazing site of cave homes and camels. Its incredible to think that people actually to this day live in these caves.

This photo was taken from our hotel of the farm workers. Turkey is very modern in Istanbul, but when you get out into the country its a more traditional way of life and you have to ask permission to take photographs. The hotels that we stayed in were excellent and we were very comfortable and happy. Turkish people treat the customer with great respect and always put you first, so its an absolute pleasure and your every need gets taken care of.
